Take These 5 Country Roads In Rhode Island For A Gorgeous Scenic Drive
Fall is the perfect time for a scenic drive, and Rhode Island is the perfect place. Take one of these five winding, country roads that lead you through some of the state’s most charming small towns, past some stunning mansions and along the most beautiful coastline in the nation.


Take the Twin River Road (pictured here) to the Les Paulson Loop, which circle the picturesque Olney Pond in Lincoln Woods State Park.

This 627-acre park includes a beach, baseball field, hiking trails and more.

Get out of the car and stay for awhile - the scenery is beautiful and relaxing.

Ocean drive is a popular scenic road for both the ocean views and the spectacular mansions that dot the landscape.

In some spots, you get both views - the crashing waves and the stately summer homes of the wealthy.

The Breakers is the largest of the summer "cottages" here. Once owned by the Vanderbilts, it was completed in 1895 and cost over $7 million.

The road can get pretty interesting during winter storms!

The Claiborne Pell span is 1,600 feet long and connects Newport to the island.

At the tip of Conanicut Island, the historic, charming Beavertail light provides a welcoming beacon to keep passing ships safe. The 45-foot tall tower was built in 1856.

For some pretty, rural scenes, take North Road, which cuts right down the middle of the island.

East Shore Road provides plenty of picturesque ocean views.

This two-mile long road stretches from Richmond to Charlestown, with plenty of historic homes and farms along the way.

Horseshoe Falls is a pristine, pretty place along the way.

The Albert S. Potter Octagon House is another popular attraction nearby. Owned by a watchmaker in the mid-1850s, Albert worked in the cupola of the house. It's now preserved by the Carolina Preservation and Band Society.

Route 1A stretches along most of the length of the state, passing through several of Rhode Island's most scenic towns.

The North Kingston Town Hall was built in 1888.

Ninigret Pond is a picturesque spot in Charlestown.

Wickford is a pretty little town established in 1709.
