One of Rhode Island’s true treasures is tucked away off a rural country road and yet what is so surprising is the number of people that show up on a regular basis to this special and unique barn. The nightclub is home to some of the most lively country line dancing around. Whether you are young or just young at heart, everyone is welcome at The Mishnock Barn and you don’t even need cowboy boots.
The Mishnock Barn in West Greenwich receives all of their guests with the same old-fashioned country hospitality. Tried and true regulars and those who have never danced a single step are all made to feel at home under the rafters of the barn where music brings everyone together.
The barn was built in the 1940s as a picnic and entertainment pavilion. It was later enclosed and Saturday night country dances were held in the 70s. The family tradition still runs true today in this unique spot where you can join in the festivities that feel more like an old-school country party than a nightclub.
The barn has three different dance floors. Beginners can learn the steps with guided lessons on one floor while seasoned veterans can show off their moves on the other two dance areas.
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays are Beginners Nights where Dan Albro, owner and line dancer extraordinaire, will show you the steps and teach you the dances. Don't worry if you have two left feet, he will still have you dancing in no time.
Although the barn does specialize in country line dancing, you will hear pop and R&B tunes play from the D.J. booth too. The atmosphere is energy charged and the regulars are extremely supportive willing to give you a pointer or two if you ask.
All that dancing will leave your breathless and needing a drink to quench your thirst. Wander over to the fully stocked bar and grab some refreshment, take a breather, and get ready to head back out on the dance floor.
Prefer to spectate for awhile? The barn has plenty of ringside seats to all the action on the dance floor. Cheer on your friends (hootin' and hollerin' is perfectly acceptable here) or pick up some new steps by watching.
The Mishnock Barn draws visitors from all over Southern New England mostly because there isn't anywhere else in the area like it. Become part of the family with your first step onto the dance floor and you'll want to keep coming back for more.
