Rhode Island’s Weetamoo Woods Is A Beautifully Brilliant Green

We can all probably agree that Rhode Island has its fair share of natural wonders – from breathtaking waterfalls to soft, sandy beaches. A beautiful forested area, Rhode Island’s Weetamoo Woods is a well-known gem that provides a picturesque backdrop for a few hours or an entire day of exploring. The best way to get to know this Rhode Island gem is one of its scenic trails.

Keep an eye out for the parking lot at Weetamoo Woods in Tiverton; you shouldn't have too much difficulty scoring a parking space.

Once you've parked, you're just steps from the entrance to this sprawling natural area that spans 650 acres.

While it's home to trees that date back 125 years, the forest is considered "middle age," having survived the destruction from a hurricane that struck New England in 1938.

A visit to Weetamoo Woods almost guarantees running into local wildlife - chipmunks, squirrels, white tailed deer, and opossum.

Keep your eyes to the sky, too, because countless birds - from horned owls to red-tailed hawks - frequently fly overhead.

Weetamoo Woods also features 12 acres of grassland, so you'll enjoy several types of scenery when you visit.

The best way to explore is on the Weetamoo Woods Trail, which clocks in at just under five miles. (It's also popular with horseback riders.)

While you're exploring, keep an eye out for the many species of trees - oak, American holly, red maple, and white pine, to name just a few.
