The 10-Scoop Sundae From Newport Creamery In Rhode Island Will Leave You Happy And Full
If you’re an ice cream fanatic, you know the decadent dessert is fantastic any day of the year. And if a little bit of ice cream is good, a lot must be even better, right? You’ll find everything you’re craving at Newport Creamery, even if what you’re craving happens to be a sundae the size of your head. This old school spot has a dessert menu to die for.
Although Newport Creamery now has 10 locations in Rhode Island (and 2 in Massachusetts), the company's beginnings were humble.
The creamery's roots go all the way back to 1928 when Samuel Rector took over a dairy on Van Zandt Avenue in Newport and became a wholesale milk distributor. His son joined the business a few years later.
The business grew and prospered, focusing on delivering the best quality milk to the locals.
In 1940, the Rectors opened a milk bar in Middletown (its flagship location) that served delicious ice cream. Needless to say, that venture has been quite successful.
Ice cream is far from the only thing you'll find on the menu here.
A hearty breakfast menu is served at each location daily, along with classic lunch and dinner items like soups, salads, sandwiches and melts, and tasty burgers.
This chain is known for their signature drink, the Awful Awful.
But not to worry, it's awful in name only. In reality, it's a scrumptious blended ice cream drink that tastes like a lighter version of a milkshake.
Of course, if you're looking for the ultimate indulgence, order a 10-scoop sundae, appropriately called the Holy Cow! Sundae.
This is 10 scoops of ice cream, four toppings, banana wheels and walnuts (and some decorative cherries).
This sundae, which costs $14, is meant to be shared... but no one will judge you if you attempt it solo.
We've all had days that warranted something like this.
All Newport Creamery locations are open daily, although hours vary.
Most open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. or 11 p.m.
