Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

This Italian-villa styled estate was built in the early 1900’s as a winter home by a Chicago business tycoon James Deering. Now listed on a National Historic Landmark, the property is owned by the county and serves as a museum, preserving much of the original architecture and displaying the original antique furniture and European artwork owned by Deering. The main house overlooks the Biscayne Bay, and the expansive gardens, inspired by geometric Italian and French landscapes of the 1700’s, are now an excellent place to take a relaxing stroll through the courtyards and main and admire the beautiful orchids (one of Deering’s favorite flowers). Guided tours are held daily, and prices and times can be found on their website.
