Prairie Nut Hut

A unique little bar and grill located in Altoona, the Prairie Nut Hut is, in the best sense of the phrase, a hole in the wall eatery with some seriously good burgers and fries.

Including the stools at the counter, the Prairie Nut Hut seats less than 40 patrons, and has been serving up generous servings of hamburgers, chicken fried steak and mountain oysters since they re-opened in the 1990s. The location operated as the A&B Tavern from the 1940s or 50s – also known for their mountain oysters – until closing in the 1980s.
