Museum of Colorado Prisons
This monument to historic Colorado prisons, opened in 1988, contains some amazing artifacts and fascinating stories. The museum was the first of its kind to be built next to an active prison, so you are closer to the criminals than you think! (Don’t worry…you are safe!) The museum contains exhibits featuring confiscated weapons found on inmates, disciplinary paraphernalia from 1871, inmate arts and crafts, a gas chamber, and the hangman’s noose used in the last execution-by-hanging in Colorado history!
