Henry Morrison Flagler Museum

You may not recognize his name, but Henry Flagler played an influential role in shaping America, as we know it. Flagler was a hugely successful businessman in the late 1800’s and was the founder, along with John D. Rockefeller, of Standard Oil—one of the world’s first (and largest) international companies, and the igniting business that led to the Supreme Court’s decision to outlaw industrial monopolies. Flagler is also credited for his role in the development of the Florida East Coast Railway. The Flagler Museum exists in what was once his private winter home, Whitehall, which was built in 1902 and declared one of the most beautiful and lavish homes in the world. Whitehall is recognized as a National Historic Landmark, and the museum preserves the history of it’s industrialist owner and his role in the development of Miami and Palm Beach. Guided tours are offered daily, and many special events and galas are held in Whitehall.
