Oregonians joke that the state is full of recovering ex-Californians, but Blue Star recently made their way South to set up shop in Los Angeles, and East to Tokyo, and have been recognized by Zagat reviewers for their internationally adored delicacies. Despite their big dreams, Blue Star Donuts is committed to using sustainable, local, and gourmet ingredients to create their sweet treats. Owner Katie Poppe has become an Oregon entrepreneurial legend for her business success (she also founded Little Big Burger, Boxer Ramen, Boxer Sushi, Son of a Biscuit, Hop Dog, and Camden’s Catsup!) Despite the media attention, Blue Star continues to uphold their “quality over quantity” business model, and offers some of the most creative and unique flavors—elevating the donut from a lowly breakfast item to a full-blown culinary masterpiece.
