Spend The Day With Wolves At The Wolf Sanctuary of PA In Speedwell, Pennsylvania
We’re quite fortunate in Pennsylvania to have the opportunity to see wildlife – from wild turkey and elk to deer and eagles – in their natural habitats. With some animals, however, we don’t have that luxury. Wolves, for example, are no longer found in the Pennsylvania wild, but you can get a close-up look at them at this wolf sanctuary in Pennsylvania.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate
For more than four decades, one family – the Darlingtons – has been rescuing and providing lifelong care and shelter for wolves and wolf-dogs who would otherwise have nowhere else to go.
Today, Wolf Sanctuary of PA welcomes visitors to join a guided tour of the sanctuary, spanning 80 acres, that’s home to more than a dozen beloved wolves, including Lucas, Cheyenne, and Spirit.
Make sure you wear sturdy, comfortable shoes as you’ll be doing a lot of walking. You’ll also want to dress for the weather. Tours set off rain or shine.
Tours begin with a bit of background on the sanctuary itself before your seasoned tour guide leads you through the sanctuary to see the wolves in a natural setting.
During the tour, you’ll learn more about the packs, how they’re cared for, and wolf conservation in general. You can take photos on your adventure, too.
Wolf Sanctuary of PA offers several other tours, in addition to the public and private tours. Aspiring and seasoned photographers may want to join the Professional Photography Sessions for up to two hours.
For a truly unique experience, reserve a spot during one of the Full Moon Fundraiser events. During the 2.5-hour, adults-only (16 and older) event, you can embark on a self-guided tour of the sanctuary.
If you’re visiting during the Full Moon event, bring along plenty of marshmallows and hot dogs to roast over a roaring fire. Don’t forget your flashlight, lawn chair, and blanket, too.
