You’ll Be Pleased To Hear That Pennsylvania’s Upcoming Winter Is Supposed To Be Warm (But Wet)
Can you believe that summer’s almost over? And before you know it, we’ll be raking leaves, handing out Halloween candy, and pulling out the winter clothes. Good news/bad news about the Old Farmer’s Almanac winter predictions for Pennsylvania in 2018-19: expect warmer temps, which means less snow than normal. So, if you love snow, you might be disappointed. But if you don’t like shoveling, three cheers! Let’s take a closer look at the winter predictions for Pennsylvania.
Get ready for a pretty mild winter, PA! The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts that the entire United States, except the Southwest, will experience warmer temperatures than normal this winter.
Two factors will contribute to those warmer than normal temperatures, according to the Almanac, including a predicted "weak" El Nino. El Nino should push the cold air from the North, rather than the cold lingering for an extended period.
Warmer temperatures also mean less snow. Good news if you don’t like digging out. Bad news if you love sledding, building snowmen, and getting off school for snow days.
But, less snow doesn’t mean less precipitation. We just might have to exchange our shovels for umbrellas. The Almanac predicts that Pennsylvania will also see plenty of rain this winter.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts the snowiest months will be from early to mid-December and at the beginning of February.
Eastern PA, on the other hand, will deal with its coldest days from early to the middle of December, in early and in late January, and at the beginning of February.
Those dreams of a white Christmas? Not looking so good. The Almanac predicts Eastern PA’s snowiest times will arrive at the beginning of December, the end of January, and the middle of February.
Your turn, State College and the Appalachians Region. Prepare to bundle up from the middle to late December, at the beginning and at the end of January, and through the middle of February.
Then, pull on the snow boots during the middle of December and at the beginning of January and February. The Almanac predicts those will be your snowiest times.
Okay, Northern PA, including Erie, get ready to bundle up for your coldest days, predicted for the middle and the end of December, the beginning and the end of January, and the beginning of February.
The Almanac predicts your snowiest days will arrive at the beginning of December, the beginning and the end of January, and the beginning February. And, expect more snow in the middle of March.
