The Twin Falls Trail Is The Single Most Dangerous Hike In All Of Pennsylvania
One of the best things about hiking in Pennsylvania is we can find incredible trails regardless of our skill level. But some of the most rewarding hikes are also the most dangerous. Glen Onoko Falls Trail, for example, saw so many injuries and even deaths that it was eventually closed. Twin Falls Trail in Pennsylvania is also considered quite dangerous… unless you’re an experienced hiker. Even then you’ll need to take precautions.
Just 20 minutes from Ricketts Glen State Park and its incredibly popular Falls Trail (which boasts 21 waterfalls!), State Game Lands 13 in Benton offers a quieter alternative for enjoying waterfalls.
However, there’s a reason the Twin Falls Trail is quieter. It comes with its fair share of hazards and isn’t suitable for inexperienced hikers or children.
This 7.6-mile trail meanders through state game lands and is not well maintained. You'll need to follow the orange blazes, which can sometimes be difficult to find.
Prepare to get wet, too, as you’ll have to cross several streams, which can actually be quite refreshing during the summertime! The streams can get high and dangerous for crossing, however, especially after a rain, so keep that in mind.
Twin Falls Trail is considered moderately difficult for experienced hikers, due to its steep climbs, stream crossings, and slippery surfaces, especially near the waterfalls.
If you’re up for the challenge and take the necessary precautions, including wearing sturdy shoes that do well on slippery surfaces, you’ll be rewarded with gorgeous scenery and cascading waterfalls.
