Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway’s Scenic Train Is Running Again In Pennsylvania, And You’ll Want To Catch A Ride
Have you ever noticed that there’s just something about riding the rails, even if we’re going for a short journey, that just stirs the imagination? We can sit back, relax, and watch the scenery go by. One of the most memorable train rides has always been the scenic train rides aboard the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway in Pennsylvania, which recently made its return to the rails.

After a nearly yearlong absence, the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway has made its return to Jim Thorpe and is once again offering scenic train rides that often beckon tourists from all over the state and beyond to the enchanting small town.
The railway ceased operations in November 2019 after the Borough of Jim Thorpe determined it should pay an amusement tax and also sued for back taxes. However, the dispute has since been settled, and…
The scenic train rides resumed in August and will run daily through September 7, 2020 (Labor Day). Weekday trains set off at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
If you can’t make the journey until Saturday or Sunday, you have an extra time from which to choose. In addition to the 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., the Lehigh Valley train will run at 4:30 p.m.
Train rides are 70 minutes and travel from Jim Thorpe to Lehigh Gorge State Park and back. You’ll definitely want to bring your camera along to snap photos, especially as the fall foliage begins to appear.
Climb aboard the standard coach or the open air car. The fare for the standard coach is $17 for adults and $9 for kids between three and 12. For the open air car, adults pay $20 while kids between three and 12 cost $10.
Bike trains take you on a one-way trip to the charming town of White Haven. From there, you ride along the Lehigh Gorge Rail-Trail back to Jim Thorpe. Advanced reservations are recommended.
