Settler’s Cabin Green Loop Trail Is Best Short Hike With A Waterfall Near Pittsburgh

Hidden gems abound in Pittsburgh, wouldn’t you agree? Although Allegheny County officially has one waterfall, Fall Run Falls, there’s another smaller, little-known waterfall, tucked in a sprawling neighborhood park. But, to see it, you’ve got head out on this short hike near Pittsburgh that will take you along dirt paths, past lush green trees, and to the small but picture-perfect waterfall.

Spend a relaxing day at Settler's Cabin Park, a spectacular 1,610-acre park that promises plenty to do for the whole family.

But, for a truly unique experience, lace up your walking shoes or hiking boots for a picturesque hike along the 1.9-mile Green Loop Trail.

A fairly popular trail, the Green Loop will lead to the highest point - 1250 feet - in Settler's Cabin Park.

Of course, you'll also arrive at the small but enchanting unnamed waterfall that falls into a small pool at its base.

Dip your feet in the pool before taking plenty of pictures from all angles. (Expect that the waterfall will be even more magnificent after a rainfall.)

Then, after you've completed the Green Loop, explore the rest of the park that features a wave pool, perfect for cooling down in the summer. (The wave pool is set to open on June 1, 2019.)

And, enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the picnic tables. Settler's Cabin Park also has basketball and tennis courts.

Spend a leisurely day at Settler's Cabin Park, open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset.
