11 Things No Self-Respecting Pittsburgher Would Ever Do
We, Pittsburghers, are pretty flexible and open-minded, right? That’s what happens when we live in a diverse city like Pittsburgh. But, let’s admit it, there are some things nobody from Pittsburgh would ever do. Here are 11 of those things.
1. Ask for anything but Heinz.
Imagine walking into Giant Eagle or Shop 'N Save and dropping Hunts Ketchup or French's Mustard in your cart. It's just not done in the Burgh. Pittsburgh is Heinz territory.
2. Order an ice-cold soda.
Sure, the waiter or waitress will know what you're talking about if you order a soda but, let's face it, Pittsburghers call it pop.
3. Go the speed limit.
If you've ever driven on the parkway, you know that Pittsburgh drivers don't typically drive the speed limit. After all, we have to keep up with the flow of traffic, right?
4. Cheer for the Ravens or…
A Steelers fan's arch-nemesis? The Ravens and...
5. The Browns.
The Browns. Steelers fans just do not root for the Ravens or the Browns.
6. Use anything but landmarks to give you directions.
Pittsburghers give directions based on landmarks. Turn right at the old Kaufmann's clock. It's on the corner where the old Isaly's used to sit. You've likely done it when asked for directions and, if not, you get the idea.
7. Walk away from someone in need.
Pittsburghers are passionate and that means we'll never walk away from someone in need, whether it's lending our smartphone to a stranded driver or donating to a family who has just lost everything in a house fire.
8. Choose Philadelphia over Pittsburgh.
Let's all admit - perhaps, begrudgingly - that Philadelphia is a beautiful city. But, it also happens to be our biggest rival in PA. And, who in their right mind is going to choose Philly over the Burgh?
9. Bad talk the Burgh.
Only jagoffs badmouth the Burgh in front of others. Sure, we might get annoyed with Pittsburgh from time-to-time but we're not going to publicly insult our beloved city.
10. Stay home on a snowy day.
Snow doesn't scare us. Just look back at the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade when the show went on despite the city being in the throes of the Blizzard of '93.
11. Give up.
We know what's it's like to be down and out. But, Pittsburgh's a town that never gives up - like coming back with a bang after the decline of the steel industry.
