Pittsburgh Has Just Been Named One Of The Top U.S. Cities For A Quick Getaway
Step up and take a well-deserved bow, Pittsburgh! Pittsburgh recently made it onto Hotwire’s list of top U.S. cities for a quick getaway, coming in ahead of both Miami and Cincinnati. Whether you live a half an hour, a few hours, or a day away, you’ll find there’s something to do for everyone in Pittsburgh, making it a perfect and an affordable getaway.
Hotwire recently announced its tops cities for a “quickie getaway,” dividing cities by category – big cities, mid-sized cities, small towns, and itty-bitty cities. Pittsburgh was ranked as a mid-sized city.
Pittsburgh, in fact, ranks eighth in the top 10 mid-sized cities for a quickie getaway, trailing St. Louis, Missouri; Tampa, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia. Criteria included affordability, how much bang you get for your buck, and drivability.
Even if you don’t have much time in Pittsburgh, or even just a day, you’ll find a ton to pack into that day. If you can’t get away this year, you might find a trip downtown is the perfect staycation.
No matter how long you’re staying, you’ll definitely want to start your visit with sensational views of the Pittsburgh skyline. Climb up Mount Washington on either the Duquesne Incline or the Monongahela Incline for the best views in the city.
When you return to the bottom of the mountain, stop by Station Square or head over to the South Side, where you’ll find a variety of shops, restaurants, and bars.
Or, just cross the Smithfield Street Bridge right back to downtown. What would a visit to downtown Pittsburgh be without a stop at Point State Park? It’s especially perfect during the warmer months, when the fountain runs.
The North Side is brimming with must-see attractions too – PNC Park, Heinz Field, the Carnegie Science Center, the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, and the National Aviary.
