Hands Down, The Best Fries Are Found At The Potato Patch in Pittsburgh
Pittsburghers know good food. When it comes to the best French fries in Pittsburgh, we all have our own opinion. Not too long ago, most of us would probably have agreed that The O, hands down, served the best fries in Pittsburgh. Today, with the closing of the popular Oakland eatery, the torch may have been passed to The Potato Patch.
Taste is certainly subjective, and plenty of Pittsburgh restaurants – from Primanti Brothers to Wingharts – have craving-worthy French fries that always hit the spot when we’re hungry.
Count the Potato Patch at Kennywood Park in that category of delicious fries. In fact, no matter when you head to the food stand for a hearty helping of fries, you’ll usually find a long, long line.
Tucked in Kennyville right next to the Thunderbolt, The Potato Patch has been one of the most popular food stands since it opened in 1972.
Whether you like your fries topped with piles of cheddar cheese and bacon, just cheese, or Heinz ketchup, you’re guaranteed a massive helping, dished up hot, from the Potato Patch.
However, those aren’t the only toppings available. Potato Patch fries taste just as scrumptious topped with brown gravy or vinegar. However you order them, the fries themselves are a filling meal.
If you prefer to create a full meal with your Potato Patch fries, head to Small Fry in Lost Kennywood. There, you can order a generous helping of fries with chicken strips and a drink.
Unfortunately, unlike most restaurants, the Potato Patch is only open seasonally when Kennywood is open, which means we sometimes have to wait for months to satisfy our cravings.
You can now make something like Potato Patch fries to help hold you over. Kennywood itself, in fact, posted a video offering some guidance. Watch it
