If You Haven’t Tried The Hot Dogs From This One Shop In Pittsburgh, You’ve Been Missing Out
Editor’s Note: The Original Hot Dog Shop is permanently closed.
Any Pittsburgher who has spent any time in Oakland has passed The Original Hot Dog Shop, a neighborhood institution for decades. Known for its incredibly generous helping of fries and mouthwatering hot dogs, the eatery has maintained its quaint charm and popularity over the decades.
Pittsburghers have been flocking to The Original Hot Dog Shop —
affectionately known as the "O" — since 1960. Back then, the unassuming eatery sat not far from Forbes Field.
The famous eatery, founded by Syd and Moe Simon nearly six decades ago, has become a beloved Pittsburgh institution. It's also been featured in stories by PBS, the Food Network, and CNN.
Of course, an order of fries — topped with cheese, ketchup, Ranch dressing, or gravy — also makes a mighty fine meal at the O. Everyone knows that, no matter what size fries you order, you'll still be surprised with how generous the portion.
Indulge in Pittsburgh's famous hot dogs at the Original Hot Dog Shop Sunday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
