How the small town got its name, however, is somewhat disputed. The town's original moniker, Marshall, came from its postmaster. Some say they simply shortened his last name to Mars while others believe his wife's love of astronomy is behind the name.
However the name originated, Mars pays tribute to the planet of the same name with a celebration of Mars New Year every other May and, of course, displays a space ship right in the middle of town.
Snap selfies or group shots in front of the famous spaceship and stay alert. You never know what little green men may be lurking, ready to welcome you to Mars.
