First Presbyterian Church Is A Gorgeous Church In Pittsburgh

When’s the last time you took a leisurely stroll around downtown Pittsburgh and really just looked around? If it’s been a while, definitely plan to spend an hour or so just gazing at the beautiful and historic buildings – from the Old Allegheny Courthouse to the First Presbyterian Church, one of the oldest churches in Pittsburgh.

Chances are, if you spend any time at all in downtown Pittsburgh, you've strolled past the First Presbyterian Church, a neighborhood staple since 1773.

However, the current church building dates back to 1903, with it first opening on April 16, 1905 - Palm Sunday.

Since those early days, First Presbyterian Church has had only 15 senior pastors.

One of the first things you'll likely notice when you enter the church is its breathtaking windows. Of the 14 stain-glassed windows, 13 of them were made by Tiffany Studios in New York with the other made by New York's J&R Lamb's Studio.

And, each stained glass window stands 26 feet and is 7.5 feet wide.

Then, head to the rear of the church where you'll discover the majestic organ that sits right in front of the Willet stain-glassed window. Built in 1988 by Casavant Freres, the organ features approximately 4,000 pipes.
