The final days of 2019 are quickly fading. Soon, we’ll be counting down from 10 until the ball rises in downtown Pittsburgh at the stroke of midnight. We all have our own New Year’s Eve traditions – whether it’s curling up in a cozy bed watching the festivities on TV or celebrating at a party with family and friends. This New Year’s Eve celebration in Pittsburgh, however, certainly deserves the title of the city’s most epic party.
Pittsburgh leaps alive every New Year’s Eve with its popular First Night celebration, an epic bash that appeals to Pittsburghers and visitors of all ages.
Highmark’s First Night Pittsburgh begins on December 31, 2019 at 6 p.m. and runs until the ball rises at midnight. The evening features a full menu of activities across the entire 14 blocks of the Cultural District.
The evening’s festivities kick off with an early fireworks show, for the kids who can’t stay up until midnight. Dollar Bank Children’s Fireworks go off at 6 p.m.
Activities will take place both indoors at theaters and other locations and outdoors. Watch seasoned ice carvers, for example, create masterpieces out of blocks of ice at the Fire & Ice Plaza.
Join the kids for a Kid City Dance Party, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the EQT Plaza. Then, gather with other New Year’s revelers to watch the New Year’s Eve parade from 8 to 8:30 p.m.
Don’t forget to check out performances by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Heinz Hall, the Youth Jazz Lab on the Dollar Bank Stage, and Hugo Cruz and Caminos at Greer Cabaret Theater.
The evening, of course, closes with the countdown to 2020 and a spectacular fireworks display at the Highmark Stage. Make sure you arrive at the stage area before 11:55.
