Coulterville Cemetery Is One Of Pittsburgh’s Spookiest Cemeteries

Remember telling ghost stories as a kid? Were you one of those kids who would be tormented by nightmares after an evening of bone-chilling ghost stories? Or, did you want to experience the paranormal for yourself? Increase your chances of experiencing the paranormal when you visit Coulterville Cemetery, a spooky cemetery in Pittsburgh.

Tucked in McKeesport, the land on which Coulterville Cemetery sits has a tragic history that dates back to the 19th century.

Before it held a cemetery, the land in McKeesport, at least according to local legend, housed an orphanage.

Tragically, one night in the 19th century, the orphanage burned to the ground, trapping and killing all of those who lived inside.

The orphanage was never rebuilt, and Coulterville Cemetery took its place, offering a final resting place for locals.

Since the 20th century, stories of the paranormal have emerged from those who have visited the cemetery’s grounds after sunset.

While you’re in the cemetery, take a moment to just listen. In the stillness of the evening, you might hear children’s voices and tiny footsteps getting closer and closer. Turn around and…

As you drive away, listen for the cries of the orphans as the fire sweeps through the orphanage. If you turn around and look at the trees behind you, you might also see flames and smoke billowing in the area.

Once you’ve left Coulterville Cemetery, pull over and stop your car. If you dare get out, check your windows. Do you see child-size handprints on them?
