The Place Near Pittsburgh That Makes You Feel Like You’ve Stepped Through A Magical Wardrobe
Journey to a magical world, or at least feel as though you’ve stepped into an enchanting fairy tale, when you visit this forest near Pittsburgh. The nearly 9,000 acre lush forest promises plenty to do but, be forewarned, you’re likely to become mesmerized by the pure natural beauty that surrounds you.
Just about two hours from downtown Pittsburgh, Cook Forest State Park is the perfect destination for nature lovers any time of the year.
The storybook state forest's two scenic vistas provide unspoiled views from high above the forest floor. Climb atop the historic fire tower, 80 feet high, for sweeping views of the forest up to 20 miles away.
Some trails even permit biking and horseback riding. After your hike, bike, or ride, sit along the Clarion River for a picnic or relax at one of the many picnic tables dotted throughout the park. (Charcoal grills are also available.)
Ice skating and sledding are popular activities when the lush forest transforms into a winter wonderland. Of course, a late fall or a winter stroll also promises plenty of spectacular scenery and fresh air.
