The Oldest Used Bookstore In Pittsburgh Will Be Your New Favorite Destination

Sure, technology makes our lives a whole lot easier and much more convenient. But, let’s face it: technology just can’t replace some things. Like the smell of old books. And the feel and the sound of the paper as you turn the page of a book that you just can’t put down. While some may prefer ebooks, many of us would still rather snuggle under the covers with a good book tattered with dog ears. If you love books, you’ll definitely want to add the oldest used bookstore in Pittsburgh to your must-visit list.

For nearly three decades, City Books has been a gathering spot for bibliophiles on the hunt for used and rare books, in Pittsburgh.

For the first 27 years of its existence, the used bookstore sat in the South Side. Today, it's nestled on the corner of Galveston and Western Avenues on the North Side.

Step through the front door, where you just might be greeted by City Book's newest "assistant bookseller," an adorable Beagle pup.

Then, start exploring the vast collection of books that includes English and foreign-language books, rare books, collectible books, and even new titles.

Of course, all those choices can get a bit overwhelming. Why not try a blind date with a book then? (Pictured below.)

So, browse the quaint book store, as you're serenaded by soft jazz.

Then, settle into a cozy chair to spend a bit of time reading.

Pittsburgh's oldest used bookstore also hosts events, such as author readings and signings. And, you can also join an hour and a half walking tour of literary Pittsburgh, slated for certain weekends each year.

Stop by City Books Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Or, visit Saturday and Sunday between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.
