Pittsburgh transforms into a picturesque wonderland every Christmas season, gaining it plenty of attention from the media and Pittsburghers. But, we’re also fortunate enough to live in a city that provides us with easy access to plenty of charming towns. Like these seven towns near Pittsburgh that look like they belong in a Hallmark movie, making them an ideal destination all winter long.
With its quaint downtown dotted with charming shops and restaurants, Indiana could very well be the backdrop for a Hallmark movie any time of the year. But, the town transforms into a magical wonderland at Christmas, drenched in Christmas lights and adorned with lit decorations. As the Christmas Tree Capital of the U.S., it's also
the place to get the perfect Christmas tree.
Stroll down the festively decorated sidewalks of Sewickley to admire the store windows. Start (or finish, if you're lucky) your holiday shopping at the quaint stores. And, sit down to a delicious meal at a restaurant in one of the twinkliest towns near Pittsburgh. Sewickley also holds an annual Christmas celebration on weekends in December.
Join countless other Pittsburghers in a charming Christmas tradition when you visit Overly's Country Christmas, which runs through January 1, 2019. The annual Christmas village is an ideal destination whether you want to finish your Christmas shopping or to make holiday memories with a horse-drawn carriage ride.
Stock up on all of your holiday goodies at Oakmont Bakery when you visit the quaint town of Oakmont. Then, go for a leisurely stroll, stopping by such shops as Mulberry Antiques, The Spot Unique Gifts of Oakmont, and Mystery Lovers Bookshop. Oakmont kicks off the holiday season in late November each year with a parade and other holiday festivities. (Mark the calendar so you don't miss next year's celebration.)
Spend a lovely day in Smicksburg, home to a large number of Amish families. Explore the tiny town that promises plenty to do, especially during the holiday season. Go wine tasting at Windgate Vineyards & Winery before checking out the many shops. Smicksburg Furniture, Our Twist of Country, and Time Works feature a plethora of handmade items, making it easy to find unique Christmas gifts.
Don't forget your camera when you journey to Bedford, which becomes even more enchanting during the holiday season. Meander through that town that's festively decorated with lit Christmas trees, twinkling lights, and light displays. The historic downtown's also home to a plethora of shops and quaint restaurants that just might make you swear you're in a Hallmark movie.
