Pittsburghers are pretty hardy. We know how to take what life throws our way. But, let’s face it. There are just some things we can’t live without. Wouldn’t you agree? Here are 11 things Pittsburghers can’t live without. See if you agree (and share what you think Pittsburghers can’t live without in the comments below!)
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

Imagine Pittsburgh without sports. Not a pretty thought, is it? Pittsburgh is the quintessential sports town and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Okay, so no one can really live without towels, right? But, we all know that Pittsburghers can’t live without a specific towel: The Terrible Towel. We wave it during games and laugh when opposing players doubt its power (which, of course, usually ends in a Steeler win).

You just can’t find chipped ham (or chipped chopped ham, whichever you prefer) anywhere but the Burgh and from Isaly’s.

Pittsburgh’s definitely a multicultural town and we all tend to come together as one over the delicious food we eat. Pierogis top that list…we even have the Pierogi Festival to celebrate one of our favorite foods.

A salad just wouldn’t be a salad without a generous helping of fries on top.

Sure, we might wish for a calendar with mild weather all year around. But, what would life really be like without the suspense of wondering what the day’s weather will bring? Waking up to a perfectly warm day only to end with a bitter cold night?

Those unexpected weather changes might catch some people off guard. Not us Pittsburghers. We carry an extra jacket – and sometimes even warmer clothes – in our car just in case that beautiful weather turns nasty.

Maybe we can’t call spare change amazing, but we sure do need it in the Burgh, especially if we plan to drive on the PA Turnpike.

The Three Rivers – the Allegheny, the Ohio, and the Monongahela – are far more than just bodies of water. They provide the perfect spot to kayak and go boating. They promise jaw dropping views as we dine overlooking them.

If you live in the Burgh and park on the sidewalk, you simply cannot live without a simple plastic chair. Life without one means you invest your time and energy into digging out your coveted parking street in the winter, only to have no way to save it.

Admit it, Pittsburgh! What makes our city so absolutely amazing is the people. We certainly couldn’t live without each other. The diversity of Pittsburghers is what makes our city so beautiful.
