Someone Flew A Drone High Near Pittsburgh And Captured The Most Breathtaking Footage
Most Pittsburghers travel along the Pennsylvania Turnpike from time-to-time. But, few may realize that a 13 mile stretch of the toll road now sits abandoned to motor vehicles and to most Pennsylvanians. This drone view near Pittsburgh promises a breathtakingly beautiful look at the abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The abandoned stretch of PennsylvaniaTurnpike, near Breezewood, includes three tunnels. Sideling Hill Tunnel and Rays Hill Tunnel are abandoned while Laurel Hill Tunnel is used for testing race cars.
Surrounded by lush trees, the empty stretch of road has sat abandoned since 1968. It has as been identified as an ideal biking (and hiking trail). The initiative to turn part of the abandoned road – approximately eight miles that would travel through Sideling Hill and Rays Hill – into a biking trail still remains unfinished.
Today, however, bikers, hikers, and others still journey to the abandoned Pennsylvania turnpike to explore the area for themselves. A word of caution, however: Hike or bike at your own risk.
