12 Things You Must Know About Dating Someone From Philadelphia
Dating someone from Philadelphia can be a little… overwhelming. We’re loud, we’re enthusiastic, and we aren’t afraid to tell it like it is. However, if you manage to nab yourself a Philadelphian, you should get familiar with a few simple rules that will make your life a LOT easier.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now:
1. We won't make plans on Sundays from September - February.
Unless those plans involve a bowl of buffalo chicken dip and the TV tuned to our beloved Iggles.
2. We'd often prefer a dive bar date to a fancy date.
Sure, there's a time and a place for drinks at R2L, but take us to 12 Steps Down or the Dolphin and you'll have a great time!
3. During the summer, Wednesday is the best date night.
Center City Sips is the city-wide happy hour where you can roam from bar to bar, enjoying snacks and drink specials. It's a great way to show off our city, and we'll gladly take you along to our favorite spots.
4. We're loyal... to a fault.
If you don't believe me, keep an eye out for cars with Phillies magnets and flags, and the people that can recite the entire Sixers' roster... still. We won't leave you when you are down on your luck. In fact, that will just make us feel a little more at home.
5. Authentic food is very important to us.
Please don't take us to Chili's for fajitas when there are a million authentic hole-in-the-wall restaurants hidden throughout the city.
6. Be ready to party with us on New Years' Eve.
Whether we're heading to a friend's rooftop party or getting rowdy at our corner pub, New Years' Eve is a big holiday in Philly. Be sure to catch the fireworks being set off from... well, everywhere.
7. But don't expect to be able to sleep in on New Years' Day!
That's right! Rise and shine (or just don't go to sleep), because the best day of the year in Philadelphia is January 1st! Join hordes of Philadelphians as they bring their hungover selves down to watch the epic Mummers Parade.
8. We love the mountains.
We're almost always down for a drive up to the Poconos. In the winter, we'll try our hands at skiing or snowboarding, but in Spring, Summer, and Fall, we just love the scenery.
9. Breakfast is our favorite meal of the day.
Scrapple might as well be an entire food group to Philadelphians, so it's no surprise that we do breakfast right. Whether you want a great breakfast cheesesteak or some delicious Amish donuts, you don't have to travel far to find an amazing way to start your day.
10. You'll get used to our slang.
Don't worry, young bol, you'll be using "jawn" like a native in no time.
11. If we're hangry, please take us to Reading Terminal Market.
It's impossible to leave this place in a bad mood! They have everything you could possibly want - from the best sandwich in America at DiNic's to perfectly melted grilled cheese at MeltKraft, as well as fresh baked cookies coming out of the oven at 4th Street Cookie Company.
12. But please, don't bring us down to Passayunk for cheesesteaks.
dozens of other places to get a good Philly cheesesteak - there's no reason to buy in to the touristy hype of Pat's or Geno's.
