There’s No Chapel In The World Like This One In Pennsylvania
Faith comes in all shapes and sizes, and buildings of faith do as well. You’ve probably seen gorgeous cathedrals in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, but have you ever chanced a visit to the opposite: a tiny house of worship? Turns out the smallest chapel in the world is located in St. Mary’s, Pennsylvania.

Decker's Chapel was built in 1856 and is known as the world's smallest chapel. It is a part of the Diocese of Erie and contains only one room, 12 feet by 18 feet.

In 1998, the structure was deemed a National Historic Monument and it a popular destination for tourists to visit in the area. It is located three miles south of St. Mary's on Route 255.

The single plaster room contains three benches and a very narrow altar with a statue of Mary. Decker's Chapel is open to the public, but officially owned by Elk County Historic Society.

Unfortunately, the chapel is currently closed for repairs. The building's foundation shifted this past winter, and the weight of visitors within the chapel would only exacerbate the problem. Hopefully, it will soon be repaired.
