7 Glorious Campgrounds In Pennsylvania Where No Reservation Is Required
With its many state parks and campgrounds, sleeping under the stars has never been easier in Pennsylvania. But, if you’re in the mood to camp on the spur-of-the-moment, you don’t have quite as many options. Here, however, are seven glorious campgrounds in Pennsylvania where no reservation is required.
*Please note: No reservations mean camping spots are available on a first come first serve basis. You may find a campground has no or little space or you can’t find the kind of space you want to pitch your tent.
1. Ravensburg State Park – 2388 Rauchtown Road, Jersey Shore, PA 17740
Sleep under the stars at the cozy 78-acre Ravensburg State Park, near Tiadaghton State Forest. Bring your pooch to this pet-friendly campground that's open until the last weekend in September. No reservations are accepted at this first come first serve camp that features a fire ring and picnic tables. Only tent camping is permitted.
2. Colton Point State Park – 927 Colton Road, Wellsboro, PA 16901
Soak up the spectacular views of Pine Creek Gorge - the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania - at Colton Point State Park. The sprawling state park does not accept camping reservations with all sites on a first come first serve basis until the season ends the third Sunday in October. The campground features rustic bathrooms, fire rings, and picnic tables.
3. Patterson State Park – 2866 Cherry Springs Road, Coudersport, PA 16915
Escape to the remote Patterson State Park for an evening or two of camping. The campground operates on a first come first serve basis and features modern bathrooms and picnic tables.
4. Penn-Roosevelt State Park – Huntingdon, PA 16652
Pitch a tent at the secluded Penn-Roosevelt State Park for a night of camping. The campground offers 18 rustic campsites as well as water for drinking and flush toilets. Although it is secluded, the campground is regularly patrolled by park rangers.
5. Fowlers Hollow State Park – Blain, PA 17006
Slip away to the quaint 104-acre Fowlers Hollow State Park for a quiet camping adventure. The pet-friendly campground - open from mid-March through mid-December - features six tent sites and 12 RV sites. Amenities include flush toilets, sanitary dump station, and water spigots.
6. Sara’s Campground – 50 Peninsula Drive, Erie, PA 16505
Sleep under the stars with the sand beneath you at Sara's Campground in Erie. The campground's beach campsites are first come first serve. The campground boasts such amenities as modern bathrooms, laundry facilities, a game room, and a general store.
7. Riverside Campground – 125 S Main Street, Montgomery, PA 17752
Pitch your tent at Riverside Campground, where no reservations are necessary for tent camping. Campers will enjoy a rustic experience with no electric or water near the tents. However, campers will be a short walk to the bathrooms and showers.
