Doubling as a fast food restaurant and the Big Mac Museum, this Pennsylvania McDonald’s is well worth a pilgrimage, especially if you’re a fan of the famous sandwich and fries.
The Big Mac, after all, was invented by Western Pennsylvanian Jim Delligatti in nearby Uniontown. After hearing constant complaints from customers about how boring McDonald’s burger was, Delligatti sprang into action.
He turned that plain burger into a masterpiece, inventing a special sauce in 1967. Customers couldn’t get enough of the brand new burger, but corporate headquarters? It took little notice.
Finally, a few years later, that burger – two burgers, special sauce, cheese, pickles, onions, and lettuce – and its popularity got the attention it was due, and the Big Mac was rolled out worldwide.
The McDonald’s in North Huntingdon features memorabilia from the fast food restaurant, giving you a fascinating glimpse into the past. Carve out a bit more time than you would for a normal visit, so you can check out the museum.
