10 Things You Thought You’d Always Hate About Pennsylvania, But Have Learned To Love
Most of us can probably list a whole lot of things we love about Pennsylvania. However, are there any things you always thought you’d hate about the state that you really ended up loving? Maybe the intensity of sports fan, for example, grated on your nerves at first, but after time, you joined in the fun and became that intense too. Here are 10 things you might not have been all too thrilled about in Pennsylvania at one time.
Living in Pennsylvania means experiencing all four seasons, but to experience them all in one day? Who signed up for that? While we might not have been prepared for those finicky weather days at one time, would we really give them up now?
C’mon, admit it. Punxsutawney Phil might have annoyed you a bit at one time. After all, rodents don’t really predict the weather, and the poor guy’s usually wrong more than he’s right. But Phil’s a cute little fella who transforms a bleak, ordinary February morning into something a little more exciting, right?
So, yeah, potholes are pretty darn annoying. Still, they’ve given us a chance to improve our driving skills so that’s a bonus, right? If that doesn’t hold water, how can we not love that we’re home to the world’s largest pothole – Archbald Pothole in Archbald State Park?
We’re expected to choose between Sheetz and Wawa, the Steelers and the Eagles, and pop and soda. It might be a bit annoying at first, but that’s just one of the things that make us so uniquely Pennsylvania, right?
If you’re from out of state, you’re probably used to referring to your home state by its full name – Massachusetts, Florida, or Connecticut, for example. Here, it takes a bit getting used to, but we call our home state PA. You might hate it at first, but you’ll grow to love it.
Okay, well, this one is only true for some people. Virtual hands up if you’re one of those people who absolutely hated the PA staple of scrapple, but then it grew on you!
Small-town life can be so boring, or at least that’s the bad rep it gets. Visit a few of Pennsylvania’s small towns, however, and you’re sure to fall in love.
You’ve never experienced sports until you’ve lived in PA, where the fans are loyal and really vocal. You probably don’t want to come into Heinz Field, for example, rooting for the away team. However, once we realize how much camaraderie there is among PA sports fans, we’re all good.
Learning the lingo in PA can be a challenge, especially if you’re a newcomer. Depending on where you live, you’ll have to learn a whole set of words and phrases. It’s yinz in Pittsburgh and youse in Philly. Once you’ve got the hang of it, though, you’ll love having your own "secret" language.
Pennsylvania’s hilly, and that can prove quite the challenge when we’re biking or hiking. However, when we stop to just look at the landscape – its rolling hills, endless farmland, and countless waterfalls – it just doesn’t get any better than this, does it?
