These 10 Iconic Products Define Pennsylvania More Than Anything Else
Pennsylvania is certainly known for quite a few significant events throughout history, for its sports teams, and for its famous rivalries, including Wawa versus Sheetz. PA’s also earned status as the Snack Food Capital of the World, and Kennett Square is the Mushroom Capital of the World. There’s also no shortage of iconic products from Pennsylvania. Here are just 10 of them.

1. Hershey’s Chocolate
Chocolate lovers the world over know that Hershey comes from Pennsylvania. Hershey’s Chocolate – from its famous candy bars to kisses – just might be the most famous brand to come out of Pennsylvania. It’s so popular that the charming town of Hershey pays homage to the famous chocolate.
2. Crayola Crayons
Virtual hands up if you remember carefully ripping the paper off of your crayons as a kid, so you’d have more crayon to color with? Chances are those crayons were Crayola, made in Easton. Nothing beat the crayons in the big box, with a ton of colors, either.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you’ve got to admit that PEEPS stir some pretty strong emotions in people. Those who love the super-sugary treat can visit Bethlehem, home of the PEEPS factory, each December for the epic PEEPSFest.
4. Herr’s Snacks
We Pennsylvanians love our snacks, and that’s pretty evident, considering we live in the Snack Food Capital of the World. Herr’s is just one of the many snack food companies – along with Utz, Martin’s Potato Chips, and Snyder’s of Hanover – made in PA.
the ketchup of PA, at least if you live in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh’s the home of the famous brand, where you’ll find it served just about everywhere you go – from Kennywood Park to PNC Park.
If you’re craving something sugary, sweet, and downright delicious, look no further than one of PA’s most famous names: Tastykake. Headquartered in Philadelphia, the famous brand makes such popular goodies as Krimpets, cupcakes, donuts, and even honey buns.
Zippo’s been around for decades, opening in 1932. For as long as its lighters have been in people’s pockets, purses, and backpacks, Zippos have been synonymous with PA. Did you know you can even visit a massive Zippo Museum in Bradford?
Maybe it doesn’t exactly fit under products, but we really can’t deny that Sheetz and Wawa – and their rivalry – are both well known in Pennsylvania and beyond. You can usually tell which convenience store is a Pennsylvanian's favorite based on where they live – Wawa in the East and Sheetz in the West.
Three cheers to Yuengling’s in Pottsville, the oldest brewery in the United States. Even if you’re not a beer drinker, you still might want to get a peek at a working brewery behind-the-scenes. Yuengling offers free tours for fans of all ages.
10. Bassetts Ice Cream
Notice a theme running through most of these iconic products from Pennsylvania? Most are downright delicious – like Bassetts Ice Cream. It makes some of the best and the richest ice cream you’ll ever taste. Bassetts Ice Cream is also the oldest ice cream company in the U.S., dating back to 1861. Pretty impressive, huh?
