When Will Hummingbirds Arrive In Pennsylvania?

February 17, 2021

When will hummingbirds arrive in Pennsylvania?

Most of us can’t wait until spring arrives, especially after the long and cold of a typical Pennsylvania winter. Spring also means a hummingbird migration in Pennsylvania. The only type of hummingbird east of the Mississippi River, the ruby-throated hummingbird generally arrives in late-April in Southern Pennsylvania while the northern part of the state usually starts seeing the hummingbirds at the beginning of May. The ruby-throated hummingbirds remain in Pennsylvania until they migrate south in October. One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of the hummingbird is to add a feeder to your yard.

What are the best hiking trails in Pennsylvania during spring?

What’s the best way to celebrate spring in Pennsylvania? To go on a scenic hike, of course. We have a ton of picturesque, easy hikes in Pennsylvania that allow us to spend those warmer days of spring outdoors and to enjoy the fresh air. Head to Ohiopyle State Park, for example, where you can see three waterfalls, including Johnathan Run Falls, which sits along a 1.7-mile trail. If it’s vibrant wildflowers you like, follow the Alpine Trail at Gifford Pinchot State Park. One Mile Trail at Cowans Gap State Park boasts beautiful mountain views, especially pretty in the spring.

What is weather like in the spring in Pennsylvania?

Spring in Pennsylvania is often, well, chaotic. Kind of like the rest of the year. We really never know what to expect from day to day. Some days, in fact, we’ll experience all four seasons in one 24-hour timespan. We’ll wake up in the morning to frost on our car windows and bundle up as we head out into a winter morning. By the afternoon, we’ll have peeled off our layers and seriously start thinking about turning on the A/C. One thing we can usually count on during spring in Pennsylvania is a surprising snowstorm, even if Phil has promised us an early spring.
