Only The Bravest Can Endure A Visit To Devil’s Den In Pennsylvania
Most people, at least Pennsylvanians, will likely agree that Gettysburg, the site of one of the bloodiest battles during the Civil War, is the most haunted place in the state. A stay in the charming small town promises plenty of opportunities to experience the paranormal. You might even want to visit Devil’s Den in Pennsylvania, undoubtedly one of the town’s most haunted spots.
Before you head to Devil’s Den at Gettysburg National Military Park, you’ll need a bit of backstory, if you don’t already know it. Devil’s Den served as the spot where sharpshooters were stationed on the battlefield.
During the three-day Battle of Gettysburg that saw more than 51,000 military causalities and the lone civilian death of Jennie Wade, many of those who died were buried and later moved or remained unburied in the chaos.
Those are the spirits who are said to remain in Gettysburg, making themselves known to visitors in a variety of ways. One might not even spook you until after you’ve realized what happened.
Don’t be too surprised if your camera stops working mid-click or if it just suddenly dies while you’re at Devil’s Den. That’s pretty common, as is the appearance of a young man in a floppy hat.
The young man, in fact, frequently offers to help visitors frame the perfect pictures of the boulders. He might offer to take the photo or agree to pose for the photo with you. Either way, you won’t see him again. He never appears in photographs, simply disappearing.
Some visitors tell, as day turns to dusk, of hearing the sound of marching soldiers as a fog falls over the area. You might even see lights flash across the early evening sky.
Even if you don’t experience the paranormal while you’re visiting, make sure you don’t purposely or inadvertently take anything – twigs, rocks, or other items that belong – with you from Devil’s Den.
Those items are said to be cursed. Officials at the battlefield have received countless mementos in the mail with notes of how the item from Devil’s Den brought about a string of bad luck - from divorce to illness - to the taker.
