The Fall Elk Viewing Season Is Almost Here, And You’ll Want To Visit Benezette
Fall is all about spending time outdoors before the brutal cold and snow of winter descend upon us. We’ll probably have our fair share of farms, pumpkin patches, and apple orchards to visit this autumn. However, did you know that prime elk viewing season in Pennsylvania also occurs in the fall? If you’re looking for a fun day trip or a weekend getaway, visit Benezette to see elk in their natural habitat.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate
Chances are you'll see elk meandering alongside the road when you drive through Benezette, in the heart of Elk Country.
If you've never been to Benezette or you haven't seen wild elk, your first instinct might be to stop - even in the middle of the road. Don't. It's dangerous for both you and other drivers.
Outside, set off on one of the walking trails that leads to elk viewing areas. Elk viewing season generally runs from late summer through early autumn, which also overlaps with elk mating season.
Bring your camera along, so you can snap photos when you stop at the viewing areas. Be sure to keep in mind the rules of being ELK SMART, an initiative designed to protect humans and elk.
Do not get within 100 feet of elk, and never feed the elk, no matter how tempting it may seem, for example. Learn more about ELK SMART from the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
