The Hike To This Gorgeous Pennsylvania Swimming Hole Is Everything You Could Imagine
Sometimes we hike for its sheer joy – to drink in the gorgeous scenery and the fresh air, connect with nature, and come face-to-face with wildlife. Other times, our hikes have a purpose, like visiting a hidden waterfall or making our way to a gorgeous Pennsylvania swimming hole. Although absolutely perfect in the summer, this Pennsylvania trail is well worth following any time of the year, just for a glimpse of the breathtaking blue hole that awaits.
Even if you’re not hiking in the summer, you’ll absolutely love the scenery – especially the brilliant blue swimming hole – that awaits on the 2.7-mile Cole Run Trail.
Earning a moderate rating, the picturesque path wanders through Forbes State Forest in Somerset and is particularly popular for one natural wonder – Blue Hole.
Very early in the trail, you’ll come to another gorgeous natural wonder: Cole Run Falls. The photo-worthy cascade tumbles down 15 feet. If you don’t have the energy for the entire trail, the trek to the waterfall is short and sweet.
However, if you keep going, you’ll travel alongside Blue Hole Creek. Expect some challenges, including rocky terrain, steep climbs, and slippery spots. Some hikers recommend bringing trekking poles, while others say a sturdy pair of shoes will do just fine.
If you’re hiking in the summer, bring along your swimming gear. Blue Hole is a popular swimming hole, but it is deep and can be dangerous, so take care when swimming.
For many, the highlight of the trail is the shimmering blue (yes, it really looks blue) swimming hole known as Blue Hole. You’ll definitely want to take photos.
If you’re hiking during the summer, just be aware that the swimming hole could get quite crowded. You probably won’t find as much foot traffic in the winter, although it can get icy.
