Beach days and summer just go hand in hand. Even though we live in a landlocked state, we still have plenty of gorgeous beaches to which we can escape during the hottest parts of the season. If we close our eyes, we might even feel as though we’ve journeyed to the ocean’s shore when we visit these beaches in Pennsylvania.
Nestled in the Laurel Highlands of Western Pennsylvania, Laurel Hill State Park will take you a million miles away from it all (or at least you’ll feel you are). Flanked by lush, towering trees, the cozy state park features a pristine sand beach that leads into Laurel Hill Lake, which tallies five feet at its deepest point. You can bring a picnic, or stop by the concession stand for a quick bite to eat and something cool to drink.
The largest natural lake in Pennsylvania, Conneaut Lake offers plenty of summertime fun. If you’re up for a day of swimming, drop your beach towel or beach chair on the sandy beach. Play a game of volleyball in the lush grass. You might even want to visit the New Conneaut Lake Park, because what’s a trip to the beach without a few thrill rides?

Presque Isle State Park in Erie boasts 11 different beaches, so you should be able to find one that’s perfect for a day of sun and sand. Budny Beach, for example, will make you feel as though you’ve landed right at the ocean. The soft sand is ideal for a day of sunbathing, building sandcastles, and relaxing.

Relax at Poe Valley State Park, which features a beautiful sandy beach. Don’t forget to bring a volleyball (so you can play a bit of sand volleyball) and a picnic lunch. Even if you forget lunch, you can stop by the snack bar, where you’ll find plenty to eat and to drink. Go for a swim in the cool waters of Poe Lake, too. The lake measures just five feet at its deepest point.
Bring everything you need for the perfect beach day – a bucket and a shovel for making sandcastles, a towel for sunbathing, and snacks to keep you recharged all day long. Parker Dam State Park’s shimmering lake provides the perfect setting for a day of swimming. However, swim only as far as the buoy line. (The water measures just five feet.) You can also kayak, canoe, or boat on the lake.
