11 Undying Habits That Prove You Can Never Take Oregon Out Of The Oregonian
Anyone who spends a considerable amount of time living in the Beaver State is sure to pick up some uniquely Oregonian traits — many of which stick with you for life. From going out without an umbrella to being a courteous driver, here are 11 everyday habits that prove you’re an Oregonian through and through.
11. Going out without an umbrella.
Despite the abundant rain clouds, many Oregonians don't bother with an umbrella. We just flip up our hoods and carry on with our days.
10. Always being up for a good adventure.
Whether it's hiking underneath waterfalls, kayaking, taking a long drive through the countryside, or having a picnic on the beach, nothing quite compares to an Oregon adventure.
9. Being a friendly driver.
Driving on an Oregon road, you'll see lots of friendly waves, and hear few honks.
8. Developing a deep appreciation for sunshine.
In much of the Beaver State, we get used to seeing clouds overheard for at least 8 months of the year. When the sun finally peaks out, we rush outdoors to greet it.
7. The mountain views get you every time.
When you're driving down the road and you see a magnificent Cascade peak in the distance, you can't help but sigh.
6. Having high standards for beer...
With so many amazing craft breweries, Oregonians are a bit spoiled (and very knowledgable) when it comes to our brews.
5. .... and coffee, too.
Same goes for coffee -- chances are, you'll never be far from an amazing cafe or coffee roaster in Oregon. That is, unless you're camping (in which case you'll probably pack your own).
4. Expecting more from a beach than just sand.
The Oregon Coast is absolutely magnificent. There are secluded coves, rugged cliffs, amazing geological formations, tide pools, historic lighthouses, dunes, hiking trails, and so much more to experience on a trip to the coast.
3. Not being used to pumping our own gas.
Oregon is one of only three places in the country where it's illegal to pump your own gas.
2. Eating ice cream in any weather.
Some of the best ice cream around comes from Oregon, and we know it. From perfectly creamy classics to creative inventions, there are amazing ice cream shops all over the state serving scoops that'll make your mouth water any time of year.
1. Always being on the lookout for secret beaches and swimming holes.
Oregon is home to countless hidden waterfalls, beaches, and swimming holes that make for secluded wonderlands on a hot summer day. Over time, we find our favorite spots and stick to them.
