Jake's Famous Crawfish is legendary. It's a Portland institution. Everybody who's anybody that has visited or lived in Portland has eaten at Jake's at some point along the way.
Jake's wasn't always called Jake's. When this restaurant opened in 1892, it was called Mueller and Meier and it was located at 18th and Washington Streets. In 1911, it moved to the new Whitney & Gray building where it's located today.
In 1920, Mueller & Meier sold the restaurant to Jacob J. Freiman and a partner. Freiman knew a lot about crawfish because he worked at another local crawfish house before it closed. The restaurant's name was changed to Jake's, after its owner, and the rest is history.
"Jake" Freiman continued to run the restaurant until his death in 1933. Since then, it has changed hands several times, but it has always offered the same high-quality food and service to all its customers.
There are a number of appetizers to consider also. Fried calamari, baked brie, oysters, escargot, Dungeness crab and artichoke dip, and popcorn shrimp or crawfish are all tasty choices.
When it comes time to order your entrée, you're probably going to have a hard time deciding what to order! Everything here is good. This salmon
and wild mushroom fettuccine is an outstanding option if you're craving a pasta dish.
You really can't go wrong with anything you choose, though. The chefs at Jake's are professionals and know how to cook fish and shellfish better than anyone anywhere.
Whenever you go, you're going to love Jake's Famous Crawfish. It's easy to see why it's been in business over a century and why it's still going strong.
Whether you order Alaskan cod fish and chips, Jake's Traditional Bouillabaisse, Idaho rainbow trout, horseradish crusted steelhead, crab and shimp stuffed salmon, or anything else on the menu, you're going to be very pleased.
