11 Things No Self-Respecting Oregonian Would Ever Do
Oregonians are a unique bunch, and we have a particular way of going about our daily lives which, sometimes, people from out of state don’t fully understand. From going out in the spring without a raincoat to incessantly honking, here’s a lighthearted look at some of the things that Oregonians just don’t do (ever).
11. Forget to pack a sweater.
If you can count on one type of weather in Oregon, it's sweater weather. Anyone who has spent a considerable amount of time here understands the importance of a perfectly lightweight, cozy sweater.
10. Pass up a slice of fresh marionberry pie.
Marionberries -- and marionberry pies in particular -- are an iconic Oregon food that simply can't be beat in the flavor department. Who could resist a fresh, buttery-crusted, berry-packed slice?
9. Drink bad coffee.
Oregon is home to tons of amazing cafes and coffee roasters making all sorts of delicious coffee. With so many great local choices, there's simply no need to settle.
8. Stay inside all summer.
Summer in Oregon is a magical time that's perfect for getting outdoors and adventuring. Sure, most of us don't mind a Netflix binge here and there, but when summer comes around, we don't take it for granted.
7. Honk if not necessary.
Drivers from out of state may be surprised by the friendly quality of driving in Oregon, where (for the most part) drivers only honk if there's a good reason to.
6. Go out without a raincoat in the spring.
Some say that on any given spring day in Oregon, it's common to experience all four seasons. You never know when it's going to start dumping rain, so it's always a safe bet to bring along a raincoat.
5. Throw recyclables in the wrong bin.
Here in Oregon, we understand that the way we dispose of garbage has an impact on the environment. That's why we tend to be very conscious of what can be recycled, composted, and re-used instead of tossed in a landfill.
4. Say Washington’s prettier.
Don't get me wrong, I love Washington but in my experience the more time one spends exploring Oregon the more you inevitably come to realize that in the beauty department, the Beaver State just can't be beat.
3. Complain about the lack of food options.
Oregon is known throughout the country for its amazing food scene, with a serendipitous balance of fresh, flavorful produce and creative restaurants cooking up all kinds of amazing meals.
2. Call this a "rotary".
We call them "roundabouts"; that's just how it is.
1. Take the beauty of the Beaver State for granted.
This stunning state will always be home sweet home.
