You Won't Want To Miss This Epic River Float Festival In Oregon This Summer
Floating down a river in an inner tube is a classic summer activity here in Oregon. Every summer, people in Portland take that tradition one step further by taking part in
The Big Float, unique festival that draws thousands of people (along with their most fabulous flotation devices) to the Willamette River. Grab an inner tube and take part in this one of a kind floating parade in Portland:
This year, The Big Float is taking place on July 15th, 2017 in Portland.
The aim of the festival is to celebrate the wonderful Willamette River and to encourage people to use the river recreationally.
For a number of years, swimming in the Willamette was discouraged because of pollution, but in more recent years the river has been cleaned up and now it's perfectly good for swimming (and floating); part of the mission of The Big Float is to spread awareness of the progress that's been made in terms of cleaning up the water. Plus, it's simply an awesome way to spend the day.
The Big Float kicks off with a parade along the Tom McCall Waterfront Park on Portland's west waterfront.
Parade-goers get all geared up with their colorful floaties and inner tubes and march through the park to Poet's Beach, where everyone takes to the water.

From there, everyone floats along down the river in an amazing procession until climbing out at the riverbank at Tom McCall Bowl.
As the floaters land, an awesome party kicks off on the beach, featuring a barge with live music as well as a beer garden, slip & slides, food carts, activities for children, and more.
This unique tradition is fun for the whole family, and this year is gearing up to be a great one.
The festivities begin at 11am and run until 7pm. Presale tickets cost $5, and regular tickets cost $10. Find out more on their
