7 Little Known Beaches In and Around Portland That’ll Make Your Summer Unforgettable
When the mercury rises in Portland, it is best to head to the beach to cool off. Anything above 80 is unbearable, but these 7 beaches around town will keep you feeling cool even during a heat wave.
Located on the South Waterfront under the Marquam Bridge, this new beach is the place to stay cool in the city. Be sure not to forget your water shoes to make your river swim more enjoyable.
If you don't mind an industrial view while you swim, cross the railroad tracks here to find a small sandy beach on the eastern shore of the Willamette.
Situated where the Willamette River and Oswego Creek converge, this lovely Lake Oswego park has a nice strip of beach, along with plenty of green space and trails.
While not the typical sandy beach, this island in the Willamette is only reachable when the water is low, making it your perfect near-private swimming spot.
Directly off of Marine Drive, this great strip of sand is one of the most picturesque in the city. Because of its close proximity to the airport, you will be fighting air traffic noise, but it is worth it for a cool respite.
This park is a popular starting point for a Sandy River float, but it also has some great swimming spots for a day in the river.
While Walton Beach is the most easily accessible Sauvie Island beach, if you head further down the street to the clothing optional Collins beach, the beach is nicer, more private and has more shaded spots to escape a long day in the sun.
