5 Harvest Festivals Around Portland That Will Make Your Autumn Awesome
Harvest season is upon us. The trees will begin to change color soon. The weather will ease towards cooler days. There is nothing that ushers in the season better than attending one of these great festivals around Portland for some truly seasonal harvest fun. Explore the wonderful produce of the Pacific Northwest and get in on the fun with these events that will make your autumn awesome.
1. OMSI Harvest Fest
Enjoy the bounty of the Pacific Northwest at this festival on the OMSI lot. Learn how to forage for mushrooms and watch a PNW-inspired version of Chopped at this family friendly event. Kids will love the large farm equipment, strawberry DNA extractions, and other science-based fun. The OMSI Harvest Fest takes place October 1 from 10 am to 4 pm in the OMSI Bridge Lot.
2. Cedar Mills Cider Festival
Sample apple cider extracted on an antique press at this rustic festival. Pressed by local Boy Scout Troop 208, the cider is always delicious and many local vendors make this festival a fun stop. Learn about Cedar Mills history, and enjoy many activities for the whole family. The Cedar Mills Cider Festival takes place October 15th from 1pm to 4 pm and is located at 12050 NW Cornell in Cedar Mills.
3. Hood River Valley Harvest Fest
This harvest fest on the river has all you need for a perfect fall day. Taste the bounty of the valley's wonderful harvest of produce, sample beer, wine, and cider, and peruse a myriad of arts and crafts. Kids will love the play area and a professional pumpkin carver will keep everyone entertained. The 35th annual Hood River Valley Harvest Fest takes place October 13th through 15th at the Hood River Event Site.
4. Portland Nursery Apple Tasting
Featuring over 60 varieties of apples and pears this annual event is a must-visit for apple lovers. Enjoy freshly pressed cider and apple strudel at this two weekend event taking place October 13th through 15th and October 20th to 22nd at 5050 SE Stark Street from 10 am to 5 pm.
5. West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta
Compete in the giant pumpkin paddling contest in Lake of the Commons at this fun festival in Tualatin. Costume contests, food tastings, and pumpkin golf and bowling are sure to keep the whole family entertained at this pumpkin-centric festival, taking place October 21st from 10 am to 4 pm at Tualatin Lake of the Commons.
