The Most Terrifying Ghost Story To Ever Come Out Of Portland Is Truly Chilling
In most scary stories, setting is half the fright and this ghost story out of Portland is no different. Cathedral Park, situated underneath the St. John’s Bridge and along the Willamette River, is the perfect scene for a creepy ghost story. Its noteworthy Gothic arches give it the look of a church, and at night, makes it look slightly creepy, setting the stage perfectly for this haunted location.

In 1949, a student of Roosevelt High School, 15-year-old Thelma Taylor, was kidnapped and murdered in cold blood in the location which would become Cathedral Park.

Shocking the then-small community, this was just one of the many ruthless murders that took place in the city over the years.

While the park was not in place at the time, the location has always held this dark history.

Thelma Taylor was hitching a ride to her summer job when she was picked up by the wrong person, putting fear in students across the city.

While the perpetrator of the heinous crime was put to death in the state in 1953, the hauntings still remain.

Many visitors report hearing the blood-curdling screams of a young girl when they visit the park.

The screams are thought to be carried into the park by the wind off of the nearby river.

While many teenagers try to locate the shrill screams of the girl, many others are scared to visit the park at night.

If anything, the haunted story should serve as a cautionary tale against getting in cars with strangers that is still relevant today.
