10 Food Faux-Pas No Portlander Should Ever Commit
Portland is a land just swimming in mouth-watering food options. No matter what kind of food you like, there is definitely something for you in Portland. While we have a myriad of food to enjoy, there are definitely some room for error during your dining experience. These are the 10 food faux pas you should avoid while dining in Portland.
1. Thinking you can get great food indoors
We have so many food cart pods that it would be wrong not to try at least one.
2. Passing on gourmet cupcakes
Cupcakes in Portland are incredible and you don't want to eat just any old cupcake. Fat Cupcakes, Saint Cupcakes, Toadstool Cupcakes, and Cupcake Jones are just a few of the cupcake bakeries you should try.
3. Choosing anything other than local coffee
We take pride in our coffee, and drinking local supports that.
4. Skipping brunch
Brunch is a way of life in Portland, and you are not going to want to miss out. Don't worry about getting up early, there are plenty of places to enjoy this sumptuous meal well into the afternoon.
5. Sticking only to American food
We have so many great food options in Portland that you would be remiss to not sample the Vietnamese, Thai, Indian, Laotian and other cuisines that add so much flavor to our food scene.
6. Eating a burger not fully stacked
Forget about fast food when you are in Portland. Why settle for thin burgers and skimpy toppings when you can get a fully loaded masterpiece from Killer Burger?
7. Skipping donuts
Portland's Voodoo Donuts gets all the press, but Blue Star Donuts, Coco Donuts, Pip's and Doe Donuts all make some incredible treats that you should check out before buying a sweet treat from a grocery store.
8. Eating anything other than fresh, local produce
We enjoy a bounty of produce here in the Willamette Valley and eating it fresh and in-season is part of our dining experience here.
9. Ordering a domestic beer with dinner
Why choose a domestic beer when we have microbrews of every variety everywhere?
10. Not sampling the local ice cream
No need to buy a pint at the grocery store. We have plenty of local producers of ice cream and gelato and you are definitely going to want to experience them firsthand.
