You’ll Want To Take This Gorgeous Fall Foliage Road Trip Around Portland This Year
True to typical Northwest scenery, there are a lot of evergreen trees in Portland. However, tucked away throughout the city are several places where you can enjoy some epic fall foliage. Head out on this short drive to see some of the best fall foliage right in the city. October is the best month for spotting the colorful changing of the trees. Plan on a couple of hours to enjoy these spots, or make a whole day of the adventure and stop in somewhere new for lunch to break up the car time.

Head to the South Park Blocks between Southwest Salmon and Jackson Streets for a lovely stroll through towering fall foliage. Oak, ash and maple trees abound here, making a eye-popping mix of color.
With over 1,000 varieties of trees and 21 trails from which to explore them, this is a prime fall foliage location. Grab a map so you can learn about the trees and identify your favorites.
While you are at Washington Park at the arboretum, head over to the Japanese Garden for a highly manicured fall foliage show. This impressive garden is at its best in the fall when the Japanese maples are a focal point.
Built in the early 1900s, this house is a marvel, and the gardens are no different. Walk the expansive 46-acre grounds to be delighted by the show of color.
The St. Johns Bridge provides a lovely backdrop for fall colors. Its gothic spires provide plenty of picture-taking opportunities that you will not want to miss.
The final destination is Sauvie Island. Take the loop around the island to enjoy the diverse foliage here. If you want to end the day with a hike, consider the Oak Island trail, a 2.5-mile loop with plenty of opportunity to catch the changing colors all around.
