Have A Cozy Overnight Stay At Green Ridge Fire Lookout Tower In The Oregon Mountains

You’ll find lodges, campgrounds, yurts, and more in the Beaver State’s national forests, but if you want a truly unique place to lay your head, you’ll book a stay at a fire lookout tower. Check out the Green Ridge Fire Lookout:

The Green Ridge Lookout is located in the Deschutes National Forest, about 17 miles from the town of Sisters. It sits high on a ridge, about 2,000 feet above the valley floor below.

The lookout tower was built in the 1960s, and it's 20 feet tall. It's rustic, but outfitted with everything you need.

You'll find a futon, propane stove and refrigerator, oven, and heater inside, as well as a few lights. Bring your own bedding, toilet paper, garbage bags and drinking water. There's a vault toilet available nearby.
The furnishings are sparse, but the views are plentiful from the windows of this lookout.

...and the valley below. You'll also want to keep an eye out for eagles and osprey; the fish hatchery in the valley below feeds them every morning.

The Green Ridge Lookout is open for overnight stays from May through mid-November. Reservations are available six months in advance, and they book out the moment they open up, so be prepared to hop online quickly to claim your reservation. The cost is just $40 per night!
