A Night In This Gorgeous Lookout Tower In Oregon Will Change Your Life
Ever dreamt of spending the night in a mountaintop lookout tower? Unbeknownst to many, Oregon is home to a number of historic fire lookout towers that are rented out to visitors for overnight getaways. One of those is the amazing Gold Butte Lookout, tucked away on a secluded peak in the Willamette National Forest. Check it out:
Located in the expansive Willamette National Forest, the Gold Butte Lookout Tower is positively dreamy.
On a clear day, you can see Mt Jefferson, Mount Hood, Three Fingered Jack, the Three Sisters, and more. At night, the stargazing is extraordinary as well.
The structure was built in 1934, and was used during World War Two to keep watch for the Japanese air force. In the years following, it was used as a fire lookout tower, before eventually falling into disrepair. In 2007, the structure was restored by volunteers from the Sand Mountain Society and opened for rental.
The small, rustic cabin has 360 degree windows, a small wrap-around patio, a wood burning stove, a twin bed and 3 additional cots, an outhouse, a desk, a cabinet, and more. You will need to bring your own water, food, bedding, stove, flashlights, etc. There's no electricity or running water, and you'll have to pack out all trash.
This is a perfect place to relax in the beauty of nature. The are plenty of opportunities in the area for hiking, sightseeing, viewing wildlife, fishing, canoeing, star gazing, and more.
