Shopping just ain’t what it used to be. Nowadays, we’re more likely to shop in big box department stores, or, gulp, online than to peruse the local mom and pop shop. But there’s a certain charm that no corporate chain superstore can emulate in quite the same way as a good ol’ fashioned general store. In many of these places, the grocer/owner knows you by name. He or she makes sure to stock your favorite brands. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, they’re willing to stay open late, if you have to stop in after a long day at work.
